2003年グラミー賞を8部門獲得し、全世界で1800万枚を売り上げた、近年稀に見るモンスターアルバム。プロデューサーであるアリフ・マーディンの手腕もさることながら、やはり特筆すべきはNorah Jonesの歌声にある。

“スモーキー＆ハニー”、“ナチュラル”“ハーブのよう”などと様々に表現、形容される彼女の歌声は、音として捉えればピアノやギターをも凌駕し、曲にある全ての楽器の音がただ彼女の歌声に導かれていくかのごとく流れていく。

アルバムに含まれる数ある良曲の中でもT6『Shoot The Moon』は、特にオススメをしておきたい。“夜逃げ”という暗いイメージのタイトルとは裏腹に、ギターのループを突き抜けていくような彼女の歌声は、しっとりと涼しく夏の夜風を連想させる。この季節に一人で聞いていて、この曲ほど気持ちいい曲はなかなか他に見つからない。

また、メロディーのせいか、彼女の歌声のキャパの広さか、色っぽく艶やかな印象を持たせるT11『One Flight Down』と、上記した“スモーキー”なんて表現がピッタリのT1『Don’t Know Why』も素晴らしい。

有名なのであまり知らない人はいないと思うが、もし持っていないのなら絶対に手に入れるべきアルバムだ。
