ブラジルが生み落とし、世界中でそのポピュラリティを獲得したボサノヴァ。５０年という歴史の中で、それ自体は次第に変容していき、結果としてブラジルに多様なポップの種を蒔いた。現在のブラジルでは古色蒼然としたジャンルとして扱われているというが…

ボサノヴァ創成者の一人でもあり、数々のスタンダードを送り出したアントニオ・カルロス／トム・ジョビンと、初期ブラジリアン・ポップ・ミュージック（MPB）の代表歌手、ブラジルの誇るディーヴァ、エリス・レジーナ。1974年発表のアルバム『Elis e Tom』で、この二人が共演している。

実は６０年代にMPBを巡って多少の確執があった二人。だがそんな時期を過ぎた後のひたすらにリラックスした様子がこのアルバムからは伝わってくる。明るめのトラックあり、メランコリックなトラックあり、非常な充足感をもった作品だ。

T１のデュエット『三月の水』が良い。ジョビンの歌手としての力量は…だが。前回紹介のジョアンのヴァージョンが頑なにストイックであるのと非常に対照的である。名曲T５ 『Triste』、T６ 『Corcovado]』におけるエリスの歌心に溢れたヴォーカルも、T１３ 『Chovendo Na Roseira（薔薇に降る雨）』でのアンサンブルとの一体感の見事さも、全てがしっくりとあるべき場所に収まっている。

エリス、ジョビン、今は共に亡し…

３月というとブラジルでは夏の終わりでもある。『三月の水』は、実のところ雨を意味しているのではないか、とも聞く。じっとり蒸し暑い夏の午後、少し肌寒いくらいの雨の日、いずれにしてもエリスの歌声とジョビンのピアノが気温を正しく２５℃に整えてくれるだろう。
