TROOPと言ったらやっぱりT10『Spread My Wings』！　と言ってもR&B好きじゃない限り彼らを知っている人は少ないよね。88年にAtlantic Recordsよりデビューしたカリフォルニア州パサディナ出身の5人組コーラスグループ…、実はこれぐらいしか知らなかったりする。

彼らを知ったきっかけ、というか『Spread My Wings』を知ったきっかけは、R&B MixTape史上最高の傑作と信じてやまないDJ KIYO幻の2本組『Night & Day』（懐かしすぎる…）。
80年代後半、New Jack Swingというジャンルが確立されてきた中、飛び出してきたビック・チューンで、もうその中でも一番人気、一番ステキな曲と言っても過言じゃありません！！　一度（ひとたび）クラブでかかれば“明日への希望”をフロアに満たし、ネガティブな雑念なんかを一気に彼方へ吹き飛ばしてしまうポジティブすぎる曲。

ちなみにアナログ盤（7000円程度のレア盤！）のB面には、『Clark Kent Super Mix With Rap』というリミックスが収録されていて、Rakim『Guess Who’s Back』などの傑作を生み出した名プロデューサーClark Kentがラップしている。

アルバム『Attitude』の話。本作は彼らが出した5枚のアルバムの中でも駄作が一切なく、ダンス・ナンバーやバラードとバラエティーに富んだ秀作だ。実際このアルバムからはR&BチャートNo.1が2曲も出ている。その中の1曲はもちろん『Spread My Wings』。 ――間違いない！
