Mystere des Voix Bulgares / Bulgarian State Radio

TVCMを始め、実は私達も日頃よく耳にしているブルガリアの伝承音楽。一般にはブルガリアンボイスという呼び方で知られているが、実はこのCD“Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares”からの商標なのだとか。この地方の趨勢、度重なる異民族の侵攻とそれらの長い圧政の歴史からなのか『独り者のおじいさん』という寂しげなものや『夜の集』『小麦の穂が寝ているふりをする』という怪しげなもの、想像力を掻き立てられるような暗示的なタイトルが目をひく。

モーダルな声部の動き、低くうねるドローン、加算リズムやビザンチン音階。抑制の効いた響きの中に色々聞こえてくる。まるで南フランスの僧院のエコーやコーカサスの深い森、その先の中央アジアの冷たい夜も、地中海を渡った北アフリカや中近東の色鮮かな景色まで見えるようだ。盛んな移動と交流があったのだろう。それなのに嬉しさよりはむしろ悲しさを覚えるのは、オスマントルコの抑圧を謡うスラブの小作人達の悲哀なのかもしれない。一曲が過ぎる間に幾つもの異なる生活の場所や時間、匂い、それに人々の感情や身振りが、同時に違う方角から重なり合いながらやって来ては消えていく…そんな感じがする。

ところで、ショパンやブラームスといった後期ロマン派の巨匠達もその書法に東欧音楽のスタイルを反映させようと努めたが、後のサティやバルトークによるより核心を得た模倣が、それまでの古典音楽を相対化し現代音楽への扉を開いた事は象徴的な出来事だろう。二人がグレゴリオ聖歌等で知られる地中海側の古代音楽にも取材している事を考え合わせてみれば、西欧文明とその起源の隠蔽までを批評する事も可能なのではないだろうか。
