今年でNas『Illmatic』が発売されてから10年が経つ。このアルバムを聞いてからHip-Hopを始めましたという人は数知れず、Hip-Hopを語る上で避けては通れない、文句なしのB-Boy’s バイブルだ。

今回はその10周年を記念してCD未発Remix4曲＋新曲2曲が加えられた-10th Anniversary Platinum Edition-が発売されたので、あえてAmazonにはそちらをリンクしている。

本作は彼にとってのデビュー・アルバムであるが、NasのライムはNYクイーンズでのゲットー・ライフを現実的に描いたとして高く評価された。しかし『Illmatic』といったら、やはりNasを囲む最強のプロデューサー陣であり（よく言われている話であるが）、お互いが「お前には負けないぞ！」という意気込みで作っているため、10曲ある中、全てが個性を放ちまくりのシングル級。

アメリカのHip-Hopマガジン『The Source』でもしっかり最高ランクの五本マイクを獲得し、いやもう本当に文句ないっす。アルバムを聞いてるとビートに乗って自然に頭が縦に揺れる揺れる。

ちなみにその最強プロデューサー陣は、GangstarのDJ Premier、Pete Rock、A Tribe Called QuestのQ-tip、Main SourceのLarge Professor。ん～、とんでもない顔ぶれ。これだけの人間が新人であるNasに曲を提供するとは、やはり彼のスキル、才能がズバ抜けていたのだろう。

「この頃はよかった～」なんて言いたかないけど、最近の聞いていると、やはりそうなのかな。ちなみにNas、この後リリースした2nd『It was Written』ではセルアウト（売れ線狙い）だと言われ、ストリートから反感を買っている。別に悪くはなかったのだが、やはり『Illmatic』の衝撃が大きかったため、彼には皆が期待を寄せていたのだろう。

とにかく歴史に残る文句なしの名盤！！
