ジョアン・ジルベルト　：１９３１年生まれ。50年代の終わりに、独特のバチーダと囁くような歌唱法、つまりはボサノヴァのスタイルを生み出し、数々の奇行とメディア露出の少なさにも関わらず『伝説』とまで呼ばれる、ボサノヴァの代名詞。昨年9月、遂に初の（！）来日を果たし、うち東京公演を収めた『ジョアン・ジルベルト・イン・トーキョー』を今年２月にリリース。その数３０以上にのぼる彼の膨大な作品の中からしかし、あえて一つ抜き出すとすれば、１９７３年発表のセルフタイトル・アルバム（邦題：『三月の水』）だろう。

ギター、声、そしてパーカッションと、限界まで削り落としたアンサンブル。タイトル・トラックでもあり、まさに別世界の音を奏でるT1 Aguas de Marco（三月の水）。最新スタジオ・アルバム『ジョアン　声とギター』にも収録のT8 Eu Vim Da Bahia。シンプルなバチーダと高揚感を持ったT3 Na Baixa Do Sapateiro。得意のボッサ・スキャット全開のT2、T9。そして当時妻だったミウシャとのデュエット、T10。ボサノヴァのエッセンスがこの一枚に凝縮、というくらい濃密で暖かく、そして洒脱。

この人をあえてレビューするのもどうなの？というくらい、Bossa Novaといえばジョアン・ジルベルト（もしくはA.C.ジョビン）。でも、これからボサノヴァとか聴いてみたいけどなんか沢山あるし…という方に。『Getz/Gilberto 』も有名だけど、あまりにジョアンのテンションが低くて（よほどゲッツの吹き方が気に入らなかったらしいね）巷で言われるほどには推薦出来ないかな。とにかく最初の一枚としてこれ以上パーフェクトな作品は無いでしょう。

音楽が世界にあったことに心底感謝したくなる、そんなアルバム。
