ここNYでも昨今盛り上がりを見せ始めているいわゆるウェスト・ロンドン・サウンド／ブロークンビーツ。今回はその中心地の一つドイツ、ベルリンからCompost Recordsを主宰する重鎮、 Jazzanovaが2000年にドロップしたリミックスワークを。4Hero、Incognito、U.F.O.、MJ Cole、Soul Bossa Trio、Koopといったアーティスト達のトラックをきめ細かに、そして時には原形をとどめぬまでに再構築。CD２枚に及ぶ作品群のクオリティは未だに超一線級のレベルを保持している。
一昨年、待ちに待たされた1stアルバムをリリースしたJazzanova。 こちらはそれに先駆けること２年、 それまで手がけた彼らのリミックス仕事を一つにまとめたアルバムであります。 とにもかくにもT1、4Hero "We Who Are Not As Others"にやられる。最初に聞いたのは多分９８年くらい、 同曲の12inch盤だったとように思う。これほどに生演奏と打ち込みを間断なく行き来するトラックを聴いたことが無かった。 今改めて聞き返してみてもその展開のスリリングさにゾクゾクする。 それぞれのアーティストのイメージを崩すこと無く、しかし一聴して彼らの仕事と分かる程独特の音作り。
レビューしたい曲は彼ら自身のものも含めて山ほどあるけれど、それは次回以降に…。
とにかく良トラック多数の一枚、 Incognito "Get Into My Groove"、 Koop "Absolute Space"は必聴！ そしてアナログでは結構希少な（再発とかしたのかな？）、 Ian Pooley "What's Your Number"も収録。
リミックスにおける「今」を体現し、 多様なスタイルを苦もなく渡り歩く、 そしてなにより「良い曲」をさらに次の次元へと連れて行く彼ら。 サンプリングという手法が生み出した最も微細な音の迷宮へ。 Big Applouse for the Days to .come!
